For the release of Steve McQueen’s Small Axe anthology, we worked with Crown & Conquer and a select group of writers to create a digital and physical zine inspired by the themes explored within the five films.

The Small Axe anthology series is a collection of five films that chronicle London’s West Indian community from the late 1960s to mid-1980s. Each story showcases the essence and resilience of Black life through the ages, the advances and the adversities.

We worked with a select group of writers, activists and educators to launch this digital zine for Vanity Fair.

The platform delivers powerful stories of joy, love, resistance and the persistent fight for freedom.

In addition to launching the digital zine with Vanity Fair, the original stories were repurposed to recreate The Voice — an iconic civil rights newspaper that played a pivotal role in London’s resistance movement.
